I started paddling when I was 16. As a kid, I grew up doing surf lifesaving, which is big in Australia. I started competing on outrigger canoes. I was a small kid, so they taught me how to be a steersman.
The second running of the Great Melbourne Paddle was run today (4th December 2012) at Sandringham Beach. The original scheduled location, Green Point Brighton, had to be abandoned as 30 knot onshore winds and rough seas made the course hazardous.
After a great year of competition, 18 year old Zane Schweitzer charges his way through to the Final and puts on a dominant performance to secure an emotional win at the Hawaii Island Finals.
19 year old Kai Lenny secures his 2nd World Title here at the Hawaii Island Finals with an impressive and dominant performance that saw his 4 counting results as 2 firsts and 2 seconds.
