New Zealand Open slalom titles decided

Swiss kayaker Michael Kurt has won the New Zealand Open canoe slalom K1 title for the second consecutive year, beating a star-studded field of international paddlers on the Mangahao River near Palmerston North last Sunday.

The 2012 season: what competitions are coming up?

The 2012 season officially started this weekend with the New Zealand Open being the first ICF ranking race of the year (28 – 29 January). After the last ICF slalom committee meeting it was agreed that the Oceania Open (24 – 26 February) will not be part of the World Cup Series 2012.

This weekend the 2012 Canoe Slalom New Zealand Open

A star-studded international field is competing but it's the Kiwi canoe slalom contingent that's fired up for this weekend's New Zealand Open in the Manawatu. Rotorua-based paddlers Luuka Jones and Mike Dawson have already qualified for the London Olympics, as well as Tauranga-raised Cook Island competitor Ella Nicholas.
